I think I'll begin by saying that Bencab looked really good for a 71 year old. During the tour, our guide, Tanley, mentioned that Bencab was just in the cafe, so we decided to go meet him, and have our picture taken with him, heeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
His museum is located down hill from Asin Road. His place was like this hidden... Ecopark. It wasn't just a Bencab Museum, but actually a Bencab property, haha. The place was huge and really beautiful.
The museum consisted of his own works, his collection, and an exhibit that changes every other month (if I'm not mistaken). For this month, the works exhibited were done by Plet Bolipata and Elmer Borlongan.
Bolipata is responsible for this wonderful installation...
If you notice, we're allowed to sit inside the car installation. The artist designed it like a rocking chair, haha...
There were two more of these installations in the other parts of the rooms.
Borlongan's works are the realism paintings. His subject matter, which is the person, all have similar appearances, big eyes and bald...
Here's a painting by Bencab himself, called Sabel, who is what they call a taong grassa.
He's got like a series of this lady presented in different forms. For this particular artwork, he makes use of different brush strokes to emphasize the movements of his subject matter.
For his collections... I present to you the following personal picks...
Left: Bibak Tribal Dance by Ismael Ognayon. Upper right: Lower Right: Stylized dog guardian. |
of course, I should feature Ang Kiukok, as his paintings are now rare. |
